Educating kids about hygiene with a musical hand-soap dispenser

In regional China, local schools were seeing large dips in attendance whenever a single child started to get sick. Students were struggling to understand that sickness spreads a lot quicker when proper hygiene isn’t a way of life, and washing your hands thoroughly is an important part.

The World Health Organisation recommends a minimum 20-second wash to eliminate bacteria. To help spread the WHO message, Orange Clean — a 100% non-toxic hand wash — designed and built a custom soap dispenser that played a 20-second song when it was pressed. The idea was to encourage children to wash their hands until the catchy song finished, meeting the WHO’s guidelines. The cardboard packaging was also designed to be unfolded and displayed on a wall, explaining the concept and encouraging kids to wash their hands thoroughly.
