StoryUP XR: Brainwaves as a VR input

Exploring VR worlds with your brainwaves

Recently at the Virtual Reality Festival in Las Vegas (the world’s biggest VR festival), StoryUP XR have been awarded Best Experiential VR Film for a unique combination of technology.

Participant’s explore a VR film by (wait for it): thinking positive thoughts. By leveraging the Muse meditation headband (an EEG-neurofeedback brain computer interface [BCI]) as an input, much like a controller, participants gently move their way through a calm, relaxing VR environment.

It’s the left frontal region of the brain that becomes active when a person feels more positive and optimistic. By monitoring these gamma brainwaves, movements can be achieved in the virtual environment.
