Samsung and the Science Museum Group delivered an augmented reality experience to students in the UK, giving them a sense of how Tim Peake might have felt as the first British astronaut.
The system captured a live feed of the user’s face, and placing it onto the head of a 3D model of a spacesuit. Motion-tracking technology captured the user’s body movement as well.
The campaign was housed within a bus on tour as part of Tim Peake’s Spacecraft National Tour. As well as the augmented reality spacesuit, students could have a selfie taken from the viewing platform over Earth, explore interactive content on tablets, and experience a 12-minute ‘Space Descent VR Experience’, travelling from the International Space Station back to Earth.
